Powerball jackpot

Millions of people across the United States play the Powerball lottery in the hopes of winning a major jackpot prize.

Prizes are usually split between several individuals who manage to hit the winning lottery numbers. On Saturday, the $429.6 million Powerball jackpot was hit, not by multiple players, but one ticket holder. The sole winner of the large jackpot prize has yet to come forward to claim the win.

Saturday night’s drawing of the Powerball numbers managed to match only one ticket. 5-25-26-44-66 was drawn with a Powerball of 9 and hit in New Jersey, with lottery officials of the state announcing on Sunday that the ticket was purchased in Trenton at a 7-Eleven. The ticket was purchased with cash and has a value of $284 million.

Carole Hedinger is the Executive Director for the New Jersey Lottery who congratulated the 7-Eleven for selling the winning ticket as well as the ticketholder who purchased the ticket. Hedinger stated the lottery looks forward to meeting the winner of the record-setting jackpot. The big win is the 6th largest in the history of the Powerball and the largest single winning ticket for the jackpot ever to be sold within the state of New Jersey.

For now, lottery officials wait for the winner to come forward. It is unknown as to if the winner is a single person or a group of individuals.
